It would be recalled President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during State of the Nation Address (SONA) called on the country’s two major political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to disband their vigilante groups or would be forced to do that himself through legislation.
According to the president, the issue of vigilantism has become a source of worry to Ghanaians indicating that the country’s security agencies will not look on unconcerned while these groups perpetrate various forms of violence.

In a letter signed by the party’s National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, to President Akufo-Addo on Monday, he explained that their decision is to find a lasting solution to the canker by involving all other stakeholders.
Commenting on the issue of disbandment of party militia, Abigail Elorm Mensah charged President Akufo-Addo to take the party (NDC) suggestion into consideration or fail woefully.
According to her, President Akufo-Addo should strive to find a lasting solution to the crisis rather than rushing to tackle the issue.
“We are in this country where President Akufo-Addo told us that his government is in a hurry to fix the economy. President Akufo-Addo told Ghanaians that he is in hurry to arrest the dollar. After all his rushing the dollar is still running while the economy is sinking".
"Lasting solution to the crisis of political violence requires all stakeholders, political parties should be involved. President Akufo- Addo will fail if he wants to solve the problem through rushing” she said.
