Sekondi September 27, GNA - The Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Health Insurance Scheme is to take off with the registration of participants and collection of contributions next month.

Mr Kingsley Mensah, Focal Person of the Scheme, told the press during an interview at Sekondi on Monday that the 56 electoral areas in the metropolis have been sub-divided into 124 health insurance communities for easier coding of buildings, registration and collection of contributions.

Mr Mensah said the health insurance communities would nominate people to be trained as collectors of contributions in the second week of next month.

He said people in the low-income group would contribute 72,000 cedis annually towards the scheme while those in the middle-income bracket would contribute 180,000 cedis annually.

Mr Mensah added that the rich would make an annual contribution of 480,000 cedis but those above 65 years, less than 18 years or without any financial support would not make any contribution and would enjoy free medical care.

He said the contributions of people in the formal sector would be deducted at source because of their contribution to the Social Security Pension Scheme.
