ABOUT KAYA CHILDCARE
Kaya ChildCare is a social enterprise aimed at reducing the health and security risks faced by babies and infants of head porters (locally known as kayayoo) in markets in Accra, Ghana, by providing them with an early childhood centre that uses the learning-through-play model to aid their development.
Several initiatives in an attempt to eradicate the head porterage profession have failed to address the effects of this phenomenon on the vulnerable child.
Kaya Childcare provides the kayayo mother peace of mind, while they go about their daily hard-laboured work, knowing that their children are safe and receiving good quality childcare and education, which every child is entitled to. Currently, there are about 30 children at the centre ranging from age 1-5 year.
