The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has issued a stern warning against individuals who manipulate the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) to place unqualified students into Category A schools in exchange for money.

In a video shared on the X page of Deputy Minister of Education, Clement Apaak, on September 28, 2025, Iddrisu emphasised the system's integrity, stating that even high-ranking officials do not have access to it.

"Let me assure you that placement of persons who pass the BECE exams is ongoing," he said.

Haruna Iddrisu ‘blocks’ attempt to sneak poor performing students into A-listed schools

"The Director General sitting here has no access to the CSSPS. I have no access. Deputy Ministers have no access. No Deputy Director General has access, in order to guarantee the meritorious application of it," he said.

The minister acknowledged that some people may still attempt to abuse the system, and he vowed to deal with any culprits found.

He questioned the justification for placing students with poor results into top schools.

"For instance, I would not accept a student with aggregate 37 going into a Category A school. What would be your justification for that? If you hear that a student with aggregate 35 or 37 is placed in a Category A school, does he belong there meritoriously? That is questionable," he asserted.

Ultimately, the minister stated that such problems reveal the need for greater government investment in infrastructure.

He pointed out that expanding facilities at schools like Achimota, by adding dormitory blocks and state-of-the-art classrooms, would allow them to double their intake and ease the pressure on top institutions.
