SMA supports 83 needy students in the Municipality

The Sunyani Municipal Assembly has supported 83 brilliant but needy students in the Municipality with a cash amount of GHC 25,000.00 to finance their education, Mrs. Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson, the Municipal Chief Executive has said.

She said the assistance was in line with the guidelines for the disbursement of the District Assemblies Common Fund and the beneficiaries were students from secondary and tertiary level institutions.

Addressing the “Third Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Sixth Sunyani Municipal Assembly” in Sunyani, Mrs. Richardson explained that the idea was to help improve the education standard of the less privileged in the Municipality.

On the issues of sanitation, she said five 12 metre cube refuse containers had been procured by the Assembly and handed over to its Environmental Health Unit towards a sustainable waste management in the Municipality.

She added that, “the Assembly has awarded a contract for the supply of 1000 pieces of 24 litre-sized refuse bin and it is expected to be available in one or two weeks’ time for distribution to help boost the house to house refuse collection”.

According to Mrs. Kumi-Richardson, 400 newly improved toilet facilities called Digni-Loo are to be constructed in communities such as Mensakrom, Yeboahkrom, Johnsonkrom, Asamoahkrom, Mamprusi, Yawmiri, Nwawasu, Kyeremekrom and Kyirimogya in the Sunyani Municipality.

She expressed optimism that the move- sanitation projects, would expand access to quality environmental waste management and cleanliness in the Municipality and consequently, assist in improving the quality of the populace’s state of health.

The MCE urged the Assembly Members (AMs) to take the responsibility to ensure that on-going developmental projects in their electoral areas would be well-supervised and completed on schedule.

Being the last general meeting of the Assembly for the year, Mrs. Kumi-Richardson wished the AMs and the entire staff of the Assembly a Merry Christmas, a Happy and Prosperous New Year in advance.
