SONA2018: Minority MPs tape mouths as protest

To demonstrate their protest against the Akufo-Addo government, some Minority MPs wore black to parliament and also taped their mouths during the president’s second State of the Nation Address on Thursday, 8 February.

Two of such MPs are Ras Mubarak (Kumbungu) and Alhassan Suhuyini (Tamale North).

Explaining the rationale behind the mouth-taping, Ras Mubarak told the media that it was to drum home their concerns about how democracy was being run down in Ghana by the Akufo-Addo administration.

Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, who also wore black, described President Akufo-Addo’s address as ‘State of Promises.’

Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak also said the president “wasted all his time talking about what he was going to do.”
