Organised Labour has called off its strike following an emergency meeting held on Monday, July 15, 2024.

In a press statement signed by the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress, Dr Yaw Baah; the Chairman of the Forum of Public Sector Workers, Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo; and the Deputy Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Kenneth Koomson; the unions have given SSNIT one month to engage with them and resolve all outstanding issues related to the management of their pensions.

Additionally, all members have been requested to resume work on July 16.

The unions, however, threatened to take further action if SSNIT fails to comply with their demands.

“At an emergency meeting held today, Monday, 15th July, 2024, Organised Labour has decided to call off the strike. All workers are requested to resume work on Tuesday, 16th July, 2024,” the statement noted.

10 labour unions, consisting of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), and the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU), Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), the Judicial Service STAFF Association of Ghana (JUSAG) and the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA) and General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union announced their decision to embark on a nationwide strike to protest the intended sale of 60 percent shares in 4 SSNIT Hotels to Rock City Hotel.

They have also called for the dissolution of SSNIT’s management board.

On Friday, July 13, SSNIT terminated the sale process with Rock City Hotel, owned by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, after Organized Labour threatened to strike.

The termination was announced following Rock City Hotel's withdrawal from the bid to purchase SSNIT's 60 percent shares in the hotels.

SSNIT also announced its decision to discontinue the sale of a 60% stake in its hotels.
