Re-opening of second-cycle schools today for the 2005/2006 academic year has been rescheduled for Monday, September 19. First year students are to report by Friday, September 30.

The acting director-general of GES, Michael Nsowah and the national secretary of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), disclosed this to the Times yesterday in separate telephone interviews from Tamale.

Explaining the rationale behind the postponement, Mr Nsowah explained that the heads of the second cycle schools, forming CHASS ended their annual meeting at Koforidua just last Saturday and therefore needed adequate time to sort things out when they get back to their various schools before tackling the important exercise of admitting first year students.

The rescheduling of the reopening date, he said, would enable the heads to streamline procedures associated with admissions under the new computerized school selection and placement system (CSSPS) to ensure smooth transition.
