Mayor of Düsseldorf, Dr Stephan Keller (L) and Frederick Faustinus Faidoo
The Mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Frederick Faustinus Faidoo, has met with the Mayor of Düsseldorf, Dr Stephan Keller, in a landmark engagement aimed at fostering a strategic partnership between the two cities.
The bilateral meeting, held in Düsseldorf, focused on collaboration in areas such as sustainable urban development, climate resilience, smart city infrastructure, cultural exchange and economic investment.
The visit forms part of STMA’s broader international cooperation agenda, which aligns with Ghana’s decentralization policy and the Assembly’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Speaking during the engagement, Faidoo emphasised the shared values between the two cities.
He reiterated the commitment of the President John Dramani Mahama government to the development of Sekondi-Takoradi.
“Sekondi-Takoradi and Düsseldorf both recognize the urgency of sustainable development and inclusive growth.

"This meeting marks the beginning of a fruitful partnership that can deliver tangible benefits in areas such as green infrastructure, renewable energy, and skills development,” he stated.
Dr Stephan Keller welcomed the collaboration, noting Düsseldorf’s readiness to share knowledge and experiences in smart city management, waste systems, urban mobility and climate adaptation.
“International cooperation with cities like Sekondi-Takoradi is essential in building resilient global communities. We look forward to exchanges between our municipal institutions and technical teams,” Dr Keller said.
As part of the proposed partnership, both cities have agreed to begin the process of drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will outline areas of collaboration, timelines, and joint project frameworks.
The partnership will also include opportunities for youth exchanges, trade and investment forums and joint funding applications through European and multilateral development platforms.
The visit included a tour of key sustainability projects in Düsseldorf, including its district energy systems, waste-to-energy plants and integrated public transport networks.
The STMA delegation also held discussions with German urban development experts, diaspora leaders and potential investors interested in the Sekondi-Takoradi.
