STME clinic held at Oda

Akyem Oda (E/R), Sept 19, GNA - Seventy students drawn from the Birim South and West Akyem districts on Tuesday ended a week-long Science, Technology and Mathematics Education (STME) clinic at Akyem Oda.

In an address read on his behalf, Mr Frank Kwame Busumtwi, Birim South District Chief Executive, urged students to take keen interest in the study of Science and Mathematics to help develop the country a leading nation in technology.

He said the country was blessed with abundant natural resources,=94but because we lack the scientific and the technological know-how our growth and development are almost negligible.=94 Mr Busumtwi reiterated the government's commitment to investing a substantial amount of resources in science and technology education. He said Science, Technology and Mathematics were vital tools for national development, adding that activities for the nation's growth such as health, manufacturing, exploitation of natural resources could not be carried to the fullest without sound knowledge in them. Mrs Stella Nanor, Birim South District director of Education, urged the participants to accept the challenge since the future progress of the country depended to a large extent on them.

Mr Pepra Gyamera, an educationist, appealed that the programme be given the needed support to enable the youth to take keen interest in the study of those subjects.

He said if the youth were given the chance to acquire scientific knowledge it would impact positively on the nation's development. Earlier, Mr David Afosah-Anim, headmaster of Oda Secondary School, expressed satisfaction that more males were now participating in the programme.
