Strategic Communication Africa Limited (STRATCOM AFRICA) on Wednesday presented items and GH¢2, 500 to the Komenda Traditional Council towards the celebration of this year’s Komendaman Nyeyi festival.
The items worth about GH¢1, 500included cartons of VOLTIC mineral water, soft drinks, bottles of schnapps and more than 30 pieces of “T” shirts. In addition, STRACOM also sponsored the first ever regatta organized as part of activities to mark the festival.
Mr Emmanuel Kentor Adjei, Principal Development Communication Officer and Ms Linda Mireku, Corporate Service Officer of the company who presented the items, said it was the corporate social responsibility of the Company and promised that in the subsequent years the sponsorship package would be increased.
Mr Adjei explained that the CEO of STRATCOMM AFRICA, Ms Esther Cobbah who is from Komenda, decided to sponsor this year’s festival as her contribution towards the development of the area.
He said the donation was also to serve as a motivation for the youth to aspire to greater heights. Mr Adeji said the company attached importance to Ghanaian festivals and stressed to the need to preserve and promote them.
Mr Adjei said STRATCOM, in collaboration with Centre for Development Intercultural Communication, would soon commence the “Read it, Write it and Say it” project which would involve theatre arts, songs writing and analytical skills.
He said cultural studies in Ghana was not given attention and that as a company it had decided to introduce the programme to the Komenda College of Education to raise the interest of Ghanaians to study their culture.
The Paramount Chief of the Komenda Traditional Area, Nana Kojo Kru II, expressed gratitude to STRATCOM for its support and praised the CEO of STRATCOM for her commitment and concern for the development of the town.
Thirty fishermen from Komenda and Abrobenano participated in the regatta held on the Abrobenao Lagoon. After two races fishermen from Abrobenano won and were presented with GH¢ 250.00 and those from Komenda were given GH¢ 200.00.
The Komendaman Nyeyi festival is celebrated annually in honour of the ancestors and gods of the traditional area. This year’s celebration is on the theme “Ensuring Sustainable Development through Education”.
