President John Dramani Mahama must sack the ministers who signed the petition asking him to pardon the Montie 3 convicts, according to Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom.

The flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has condemned the action of the ministers, who have been at the forefront to wheedle Mahama to invoke his prerogative powers of mercy under the 1992 Constitution, to free the contemnors who denigrated the Supreme Court of Ghana.

Members of the ruling NDC, including key ministers of state such as Nana Oye Lithur (Gender Minister), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang (Education) and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (dep. Education) have assented to the petition.

Supporters of Mahama’s government have threatened to throw away their votes come the December 7 general elections if he fails to heed their request.

However, the convicted trio - Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Salifu Maase - have asked the irate supporters to exercise restraint and remain composed because they “are not worried”.

Speaking on the issue which has dominated headlines for weeks, Dr Nduom opined the ministers must take an early shower before the general elections because he would not have countenanced such act under his government.

When the host of Starr Chat Bola Ray asked him if he would have heeded the call to pardon the trio, he remarked: “Absolutely not. I just don’t get it. When something is wrong, it is wrong. We must not bring politics into it. We must tell the young people it is wrong and just wrong.”

He added: “Mahama himself must disagree, if I were the president and my ministers go to sign that book I will sack them.”

The petition was presented to the presidency Tuesday and Dr Nduom has called on Mahama to condemn the statement of the journalist and the two panelists who threatened the lives of the Supreme Court judges.
