Kasapafmonline.com can report on authority that the embattled sacked Nigerian Professor at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Augustine Uzoma Nwagbara, despite his disparaging of Ghanaian universities had applied to have his contract extended.

His contract would have ended next month, July 2019.

The visiting Professor beyond the many “provocative statements” is seen in a viral video launching into a tirade against universities in Ghana in general, and the University of Ghana, in particular.

He said: “…Our people will come here and pay $10,000 but they will not pay N20,000 in the University of Lagos … What an average student pays in the University of Lagos in one session to get a degree in English is N12,000. Ghanaians are there paying N12,000… if you ask Nigerians to donate N50,000 naira every year to contribute to that university they will riot but the same Nigerians will come here and pay $10,000 for something 80 percent inferior to Nigeria.”

“I won’t pay 10 percent of that sum for my child to get a degree in a Ghanaian university, I am in the system, I know the quality of education we receive here is 80 percent inferior to what is in Nigeria. I can tell you authoritatively,” he added.

“No Ghanaian degree is 20 percent up to the quality of a Nigerian degree. All our federal universities are better than any universities here. What makes a university? It’s not buildings, it’s not trees, it’s the quality of staff that will recycle and produce others; they don’t have it,” he said.

The Public Relations Officer of the University of Education, Winneba, Ernest Azutiga, told host Kwaku Owusu Adjei aka Patoo on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM that he found it hard to understand how Prof. Nwagbara after running down Ghanaian universities still wanted to extend his contract with the UEW.

“What is surprising is that Prof. Nwagbara who denigrated Ghanaian universities had actually applied to have his work stay at the university extended.

“When he appeared before the disciplinary committee he said what had happened was unfortunate. He told the committee that with reference to the video it will take him the rest of his life to defend his statement and that he doesn’t see how he’ll explain things to his children and friends who have called him all over the world in the past few days since the video hit the internet.”
