The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, has called on Ghanaians to make selfless sacrifices in the pursuit of their individual needs in the interest of national development.

The Moderator said it was unfortunate that most Ghanaians want to reap where they have not sown, and take from where they had not placed anything, and this, he said, had contributed to so much corruption in the country.

He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to learn from the act of God, who sacrificed his own son to bring redemption and salvation to the world and do likewise to save the nation from its current economic condition.

The Moderator's made these remarks in his Easter message issued on Thursday and copied to the Ghana News Agency.

“If, through the sacrificial work of Christ on the cross, abundant life was gained for us, we should also learn as citizens of this country, to sacrifice to build and develop our dear nation Ghana”.

The Moderator said Easter offered a great opportunity to celebrate the importance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, an event which followed his suffering, crucifixion and death.

He said this year’s Easter should afford Ghanaians the opportunity to re-examine their lack of sacrificial service as a Nation.

The Moderator said, for God to bless this country, Ghanaians must cherish fearless honesty, resist and shy away from dishonest and immoral acts, which would only destroy the country and demolish any remaining structure left.

“At this year’s Easter, let us not ask what we can get from our Nation— a question which lacks sacrificial service; but rather, let us ask, what our dear Nation can get from each and every one of us.

By this way, we sacrifice to build our nation together,” he said.
