Footbridges are designed to improve pedestrian safety and make crossing roads easier. They help to reduce the risk of accidents for pedestrians by providing a designated and protected path for them to cross over busy or dangerous areas.
However, on the George Walker Bush Highway, also known as the N1 Highway, particularly around the Lapaz stretch, some pedestrians continue to risk their safety by jaywalking or dashing across the road.
During a visit by GhanaWeb TV on Friday, August 9, 2024, some road users said the basement of the footbridge becomes unusable during the rainy season, a situation that discourages its use.
While others said most road users, particularly women, experienced dizziness while using the stairway.
