Residents of Saki Nmlitsakpo in the Kpone Katamanso municipality are angry because officials of the National Identification Authority could not issue them the Ghana Card after registration.
Mrs Vida Walker, a resident of Saki, lamented that, she needed the card to vouch for her elderly mother who does not have a birth certificate and the Ghanaian passport to prove her nationality.
Mrs Walker said, as it stands, she was confused like many others on when to embark on the tortuous journey back to centre to check on her card.
According to her, she joined the queue at the registration centre at 0500 hours hoping to get back home by 0900 am but, " I am still here and it is almost one o'clock. "
Mrs Mabel Banafo Abbeyquaye on her part, told the Ghana News Agency that, the officers from the NIA appeared not to be ready for the exercise, saying that citizens were being taken for granted.
Mrs Abbeyquaye added that, most of them had left their jobs to the registration centres to get registered but was faced with preventable challenges.
Mr. Isaac Buckson, the Supervising Registration Officer (SRO) at the Saki Nmlitsakpo registration centre, in his response, noted that the inability of the officers to issue the cards was as a result of network failure but efforts were being made to rectify the issue.
Mr.Buckson appealed to the residents to exercise some patience and cooperate with the officials during the process
According to him, all prospective registrants would be given their National Identification Card, saying it was their bonafide property
The second phase of the National Identification registration exercise in the Greater Accra Region is currently underway and is expected to end on the 6th of July 2019.
