The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is having internal primaries to elect Parliamentary candidates in Constituencies where the party has sitting Members of Parliament.
Where an incumbent or a candidate is going unopposed, an exercise to allow delegates to naturally confirm their support is held.
The only constituency the NPP holds in the Savannah region is the Salaga South constituency where the party leadership and members in the constituency and the region at large unanimously acclaimed the incumbent MP Hon Adam Salifu Braimah.
All delegates from the 94 polling stations in the Salaga South constituency would have been assembled at a common ground for the acclamation, but in adherence to the protocols in the light of COVID-19, the programme was held in phases.
The first phase was held on Friday (19th June 2020) at the party headquarters in Salaga with all polling stations in and around the Salaga enclave in attendance.
The second phase was held the same day at Good Shepherd for all polling stations in the Konkonba communities.
On Saturday, the exercise continued at Makango and the team proceeded to the Kulaw area where the acclamation exercise folded up. The exercise in all four (4) phases witnessed an overwhelming endorsement.
MP for Salaga South Hon. Salifu Adam Braimah who is also the Minister for the Savannah had a simple message across all the centres which were; “I am very thankful for the confidence reposed in me once again. I am again excited because this gesture clearly indicates that my boss president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufu Addo with me on the side have met your expectations halfway and I want to assure you that we will continue to work to the benefit of the citizenry “.
The MP also promised to employ workable methods that will ensure that the presidential votes come December 7th supersedes that of the opponent.
“It saddens my heart anytime I check the records and realise that we have never won for the presidency since 1992. Please let’s pool resources in all facets of human endeavour to ensure the story changes now and forever”; he added.
The Salaga South constituency has about 94 polling stations with 521 delegates.
The acclamation exercise across the centers witnessed the presence of the Savannah Regional Chairman Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana (Prof Kalamonia), the Deputy Minister of the Savannah Region Hon. Samuel Yeyu Tika, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Water Company Dr. Clifford Braimah, the Municipal Chief Executive for East Gonja Hon.
