The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to sanction its parliamentary candidate in Asante Akyem North Agogo, Kofi Asamoah.

According to him, the decision of the NDC PC to attack Salt FM with his men after a journalist made an allegation against him is uncalled for and should be condemned.

He indicated that he is highly disappointed in the NDC party executives for not speaking on the matter publicly and condemning the act since the incident occurred.

Speaking at a media coalition held on November 28, 2024, and monitored by GhanaWeb, Kwabena Dwumfour charged the NDC, led by its flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, to sanction Kofi Asamoah for his violent actions to deter others from doing the same in the future.

"We, therefore, condemn Chief Kofi Asamoah and his supporters for their unruly behaviour. As a person seeking to become a lawmaker, the NDC parliamentary candidate ought to appreciate the rule of law. So, no matter the nature of his grievance, he ought to use the due process of law to seek redress.

"We call on the leadership of the NDC to sanction Asamoah in the severest terms for his disturbing attack on the media house. Indeed, we are absolutely dismayed at the silence of the NDC on this matter. We wish to remind the NDC, especially its flagbearer John Mahama, of the pledge he made at his media encounter on July 7, 2024, that he does not condone attacks against the media," he said.

The Asante Akyem North Agogo NDC parliamentary candidate, Kofi Asamoah, reportedly attacked the Ashanti Regional-based media house Salt FM following a statement made by a staff member of the media station on their morning show.

Salt FM's morning show host reportedly accused the NDC parliamentary candidate of being sponsored by the New Patriotic Party MP in the constituency.

His claim, however, angered the NDC candidate, who is said to have called into the morning show and verbally assaulted the host.

The situation escalated when the NDC candidate, along with his alleged thugs, stormed the radio station in an attempt to force their way into the studio but were prevented, leading to a scuffle.
