The General Manager of Salt FM, Mr. Ishaq, has revealed that two staff members were injured during a physical assault allegedly carried out by thugs connected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Asante Akyem North, Chief Kofi Asamoah.
Confirming the incident in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb on November 7, 2024, he stated that one of the staff members, a videographer, sustained bruises on his arms after being pushed by the alleged thugs, numbering about five, while they attempted to force their way into the premises, which is secured with a fingerprint lock.
The other victim, also a marketing manager, also sustained bruises when he tried to prevent the group from gaining access to the studio.
“One of the staff was pushed at the gate and he ended up with bruises on the back of his hand while the other staff who tried to prevent them from entering into the studio also got injured so they went to the hospital with police reports.
“They have been given medications and treated but we are yet to receive the extensive doctor’s report about it,” he said.
Ishaq added that a formal complaint has been lodged with the police for further action, but no arrests have been made yet as of the time of filing this report.
“We’ve made an official complaint to the police,” he added.
The Asante Akyem North Agogo NDC parliamentary candidate, Kofi Asamoah, reportedly attacked the Ashanti Regional-based media house Salt FM following a statement made by a staff member of the media station on their morning show.
Salt FM’s morning show host reportedly accused the NDC parliamentary candidate of being sponsored by the New Patriotic Party MP in the constituency.
His claim, however, angered the NDC candidate, who is said to have called into the morning show and verbally assaulted the host.
The situation escalated when the NDC candidate, along with his alleged thugs, stormed the radio station in an attempt to force their way into the studio but were prevented, leading to a scuffle.
