Saltpond achieves high immunisation rate

Saltpond (C/R), Jan 7, GNA - The Mfantseman District Health Directorate has immunised 94,969 children against poliomyelitis in the nation-wide exercises held in October and December last year. The directorate immunised 49,829 children, being 110.3 percent in the second exercise held in December as against 45,140, which was 109.1 percent recorded in the first exercise in October.

Dr Simpson Anim Boateng, the District Director of Health Services, told the GNA that the Saltpond Sub-district recorded 18,190 in the second national immunisation day as against 17,289 recorded in the first NID.

Essuehyia Sub-district immunised 13,127 children as against 10,072 in the first exercise.

Anomabo recorded 11,323 as against 11,313 in October. Otuam and Dominase immunised 4,201 and 2,988 children as compared to 3,492 and 2,974 respectively in the first NID.

Dr. Boateng commended Mr Francis Zuradam Saareson, the District Disease Control Officer and Mrs Trinity Brown, a Principal Nursing Officer, who co-ordinated activities during the exercises, for a good work done.

He expressed gratitude to Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, the District Chief Executive, for his contributions to the success of the programme and to PLAN, Ghana and World Vision, Ghana both non-governmental organisations for their support.
