Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George appears to have been served with a dose of his own bitter pills by a member of the National Communications Team of the Governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Richard Ahiagba who described the legislator’s claims on the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy and cost of living in Ghana as an honorable loose talk.

Sam George in a debate on TV3 on the cost of living in Ghana and a recent demonstration organised by the Coalition for Social Justice, he chastised the Akufo Addo government over what he said is the high cost of living and hunger among Ghanaians.

The outspoken National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP said the mismanagement of the economy has resulted in some Ghanaians failing to afford three square meals a day, a situation he blamed on government and whittled down claims of positive effects of the implementation of the free Senior High School policy.

“We were told that there is money in this country. We were sitting on money and yet suffering from hunger. Today are we satisfied? Today it is a miracle if you can afford three square meals, it is a miracle in this country except you are an apparatchik of this government or part of the looting brigade,” he remarked on the show MyNewsGh.com monitored.

In response, the former New Patriotic Party Deputy General Secretary Aspirant, Richard Ahiagba asserted the claims of the MP as empty and too simplistic to have come from an Honorable Member of Parliament (MP).

According to him, the utterances of the MP is an empty emotional talk that carries no weight in the development of the country.

While pointing to the implementation of the Free Senior High School policy by the NPP government, Mr. Ahiagba said a great relief has been brought to parents who otherwise would have paid huge sums of money for their wards to enter second cycle institutions.

He noted that the Free SHS policy was calculated to help the large numbers of parents who could not have afforded to keep their children in school.

“They sat here and children who were supposed to go to school, much of them couldn’t go on account of poverty. The reason we all are in this space to do politics is to help the Ghanaians and if we cannot do so and there is a policy calculated to help the very impoverished people of this country after he (Sam George) has gotten all the benefit and we are doing the bid we can to help people he sits here on TV and talks the way he is talking, it’s painful and insulting,” he said.

He further berated the previous administration for not doing enough for the Volta region which is a strong hold of the National Democratic Congress where a lot of the people are poor and now benefiting from the free SHS policy.

“I think that they (NDC) are seeking power for the sake of power and that is what corrupts”.

While calling for a debate on the oppositions alternatives to free SHS and how it can work better, the obviously livid communicator said “Let’s have a debate about your alternative, let’s have a debate about what you would have done for free SHS. I want to engage in that because I want free SHS to work for the kid that is out there and for the kid in me who almost didn’t get the opportunity. Countries are developing and we must develop too. We have a President who is focused on trying to do that but you just don’t come and have a moment then have honorable loose talk. That is unacceptable” he stated.
