L:R - Sam George clash with Abena Osei-Asare and Akwasi Konadu
The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations of Ghana, Samuel Nartey George, has reacted to the commotion that was seen during his appearance before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on Monday, May 18, 2026.
The minister, during the sitting, had heated exchanges with two opposition legislators, Akwasi Konadu, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, and Abena Osei-Asare, the Member of Parliament for Atiwa East.
Speaking to the media after Monday’s sitting, Sam George indicated that he was good friends with the two New Patriotic Party legislators and that the exchanges would not affect their relationship.
“Konadu is a very good friend. Abena is a friend as well, and maybe that's part of the reason why our exchanges are very heated, because we do this in our regular conversations. But my point is very simple. The fact that we are friends does not negate the fact that the work has to be done,” he said.
The minister, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram, asserted that his colleague MPs were trying to put the same level of scrutiny on him as he did to their government when they were in power.
“I've sat on this committee for eight years. I've been someone who has toughly questioned people, and I know that my colleagues are only returning the favour for what I did to NPP ministers.”
He added, “But I'm a tough nut to crack, and so that's why I come prepared. The bottom line is, you can ask me any question, but you just need to give me the audience as well to respond, because if I'm responding and you don't allow me to respond, then it becomes a monologue; it's not a conversation, and people need to be able to get appreciation.”
He reiterated that the altercation would not affect his friendship with Kwesi Konadu and Abena, whom he said were doing their job in the House.
“I think that Abena and Konadu do their work as Members of Parliament. They do a very good job of scrutinising and asking probing questions, and I will also do my job of holding my own and stating my position.
“So, no hard feelings, no bad blood. I'm going to join them for lunch,” the Ningo Prampram legislator added.
