The Honourable Samia Yaba Nkrumah’s additional role in Ghanaian politics as Chairperson of the CPP has certainly energized the party around the country and it would seem, at no cost to her constituents in Jomoro. Judging by Hon. Nkrumah’s recent activities in Jomoro, her zeal for serving her constituents has grown stronger. There is a general agreement that Hon. Samia Nkrumah’s record of bringing development to the doorsteps of her constituents is indeed unprecedented in the constituency. That is, since the new political dispensation of the 4th Republican Constitution. One of the fields in which her impact has been felt strongly is education and many heads of institutions in Jomoro have expressed their delight at her dedication in this regard. A clear example is the recent utilization of Gh?60,000.00 from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GET Fund) being her Member of Parliament GET Fund allocation for two years to initiate and commission the following projects:
? 2-Unit Classroom block with office and store - commissioned
? 3-unit classroom block with office and store and staff common room - commissioned
? 3-unit classroom block with office and store - at lintel level, and
? 3-unit classroom block with office and store - at lintel level
Considering the recent discussions in the press about the cost of building classrooms for children around the country, the above should prove encouraging. This is important particularly, for all those who want to contribute in educating our young people and giving them a stake in society. The Hon. Samia Nkrumah has proved that it does not have to cost GH 260,000 to build a 6-unit classroom block.
Below are some more details of the. Hon. Samia Yaba Nkrumah’s activities:
On 6th October2011, Hon. Nkrumah commissioned two new school projects in 2 separate communities in the Jomoro District. These were in Mangyea and Nuba. In Mangyea, Hon. Nkrumah commissioned a two-unit classroom block with office and store. In Nuba, a three-unit JHS classroom block with office and store and a staff common room were similarly commissioned and handed over to the District Education Directorate of the Jomoro District. She also inspected two separate ongoing projects: three-unit classroom blocks with office and store for Tikobo No. 2 Catholic Primary and Bonyere Catholic Primary.
It is remarkable and worth noting that all the above projects were initiated and completed with labour and other forms of support from the respective communities. For the local people all of these were signs that their MP the Hon. Nkrumah was inclusive, efficient and transparent in her delivery of public goods to them, her constituents. Coming so soon after her remarkable win at the CPP Congress it was inevitable that the commissions and inspections would generate a great of excitement, which they did.
