Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Joseph Kofi Adda has commended the Africa Water Association for its effort to find solutions to the problems faced in the water and sanitation sector across the continent by bringing together experts from member countries to share ideas.

The minister hopes that the conference will strengthen institutional and human capacities to serve as “catalyst for acquiring and improving knowledge in water production and distribution and sanitation management for the technical, legal, administrative and economic points of view”.

He called on participants of the five-day conference being hosted by the Ghana Water Company Limited to exchange new methods and techniques among operators in the water and sanitation sector that are appropriate to the African context

He said, “we can achieve our respective countries and collective goals only in sharing and providing expertise, technical and professional view points on emerging issues and engaging other actors in such issues”.

He stated that even though Ghana has achieved 86% of its target for the MDGs in water, the sanitation sector has only achieved 15% which is a huge problem adding that “these disparities need to be addressed if Ghana is to achieve her sector target of sanitation and water for all by 2025” in the face of population growth.
