The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Mr. Joseph Kofi Adda has declared Elmina as the cleanest town in the country in view of measures put in place Paramount Chief of the Elmina Traditional Area, Nana Kodwo Condua VI who continues to involve himself in the clean-up exercises of the area every Tuesday organized by the Edina Traditional Council.
He appealed to the chief keep working hard to help President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo achieve his vision of making Ghana one of the cleanest countries in Africa.
At one such exercise on Tuesday with Central Regional Minister, Mr. Kwamina Duncan, the Municipal Chief Executive of Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abream(KEEA), Mr. Appiah Koran and traditional leaders in attendance, he lauded the efforts of Nana Condua in ridding the area of filth.
In a five-hour clean-up exercise, the group de-silted major drains and cleared emerging refuse dump sites in the town of Elmina while vehicular movement and business activities were restricted till the end of the exercise at 10:30 am.
Mr. Adda according to MyNewsGH.com’s reporter Hajia Asana Gordon, appealed to traditional authorities to lead sanitation drive in their various Traditional areas, stating that there are no other personalities that can influence people more than chiefs.
He called on the public to come on board to achieve President Nana Addo’s vision of making the country the cleanest country since his government through Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), Regional Coordinating Councils, Sanitation Ministry and Environmental officers cannot do it alone.
On his part, Nana Condua gave a strong assurance to lead Minister of Sanitation to pay a courtesy call on his colleague chiefs in the region to talk to them to take part fully in sanitation exercise in their localities to get rid of refuse.
According to the Paramount Chief, the involvement of chiefs in sanitation exercises will bring more impact than politicians.
