School organises speech, prize-giving day

Ofankor (G/A), Dec. 14, GNA - Mr. Samuel Ntow, Assistant Director of Education in-charge of private schools in the Ga District has appealed to government to consider any kind of assistance to students in private schools.

Mr. Ntow, who made the call at a speech and prize-giving day for the Little Daisy School at Ofankor in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday, said such assistance would help alleviate the burden on students and school authorities.

He also said government alone could not afford the provision of educational materials for teaching and learning and therefore, called on non-governmental organisation to assist.

Mrs. Freda Mensah, proprietress of the school urged parents and guardians to stop spending on expensive clothings, luxurious occasions and rather spend such monies to pay their wards' fees and provision of logistics for better teaching and learning.

Mrs Mensah said the school was established three years ago with only 13 children but now it has 170 children. Mr. Franklin Ahlin, an educationist, who chaired the function advised the children to take their lessons very serious both at home and school to become responsible leaders in future.

He asked them to avoid social vices such as drinking of alcohol, smoking of cigarette, attending cinema and video shows deep into the night, which would destroy their future carrier.
