Anita Adu Mantey, 52, Proprietress of a school, was on Friday convicted to a fine of GH¢ 120 for assaulting a Court Bailiff.
Anita, who pleaded guilty, will also pay a compensation of GH¢ 500 cedis to the victim, in addition, sign a bond of good behaviour for four months or in default serve six months imprisonment in hard labour.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Bernard Annor, told the court presided over by Mrs Barbara Tetteh Charway, that the victim is a Bailiff at Kyebi District Court and Anita a school proprietress residing at Apedwa.
He said on June 01 this year, at about 12:25 hours, the complainant went to the school of Anita at Boneano ,a suburb of Apedwa, to serve her with a court summons in respect of a civil suit against her.
The prosecutor said Anita refused to collect the summons with the excuse that she was not the right person to be served.
Inspector Annor said Anita’s refusal to collect the summons led to a misunderstanding between her and the complainant.
He said the complainant later put the summons on a table and walked away.
Anita quickly went close to the complainant, held the collar of his shirt and forcibly slipped the document into his shirt through the back.
The prosecutor said the complainant removed the summons and put it on the ground and walk away.
Inspector Annor said Anita took the summons and briskly followed the complainant again but this time round with a cane to a distance of about 70 metres away from her school and whipped him from behind as he walked on.
He said Anita again held the complainant’s neck by his shirt and pulled him and tore his shirt in the process.
The complainant reported the case to the Police and Anita was arrested.
