Scientific Exploration Society (SES) a UK based international organisation committed to broadening knowledge on a wide range of subjects through research expeditions will organise an expedition to Ghana in March 2003.
The expedition which will seek to confirm the existence of a unique species of elephants in Ghana besides the known Central African “Forest” and Savanic” elephants would be conducted in the Mole and Bia/Kakum National Park.
Colonel John Blashford Snell, founder of the Society made the disclosure during a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Isaac Osei, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK.
The founder explained that the research which would make use of an innovative technique involving the analysis of elephant dung in the two locations would have positive impact on eco-tourism in Ghana. Col. Blashford said the expedition will work in close collaboration with allied local agencies including the Department of Game and Wildlife, particularly on the conservation of the forest elephants in Ghana.
H.E. Mr Isaac Osei pledged to facilitate the successful organisation of the expedition and dilated on measures adopted by the government to safeguard endangered species in Ghana.
