The Winneba District Magistrate Court has sentenced a 19-year-old Scrap dealer to twenty months imprisonment in hard labour for unlawful entry, causing unlawful damage and stealing.

Abdul Wahab native of Tamale pleaded guilty to all three counts and the court convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him accordingly.

The Presiding judge Mr. Isaac Oheneba-Kuffour said the sentence was to serve as a deterrent to others.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Bernice Yie told the court that the complainant Mr. John Ehun a teacher, resides at Gomoa Pomadze near Winneba Junction, while the convict Abdul Wahab is a scrap dealer who resides at the Konkomba market in Accra.

She said on January 24, 2019, at about 12 noon, the convict was met by a group of people at Gomoa Pomadze carrying a 43inches flat screen television and holding a white sack which contains, DSTV decoder and Multi TV decoder, DVD player, Extension board and TV antenna boosters all valued at GHc 2,800.00.

The Prosecution said the people became suspicious and arrested him, upon questioning he admitted stealing the items from the complainant’s house near the Ahmadiyya Mission grounds at Gomoa Pomadze.

She said Wahab took the people who arrested him to the scene where he showed them a ladder he used to climb into the house through the kitchen roof to the hall where the items were kept.

Police Inspector Yie said the complainant later came to the scene and identified the items as his, upon which the convict was escorted to the Winneba Police Station together with the items.
