Kade (E/R), Feb. 13, GNA - Kofi Afagbedzi, a farmer, has appeared before the Kade District Magistrate's Court for possessing Indian hemp. His plea was not taken and was remanded in prison custody to reappear on March 11.

Police Inspector D.T. Nartey, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, that on January 31, the complainant detected that the cocoa beans she was fermenting on her farm have been stolen. He said the complainant who suspected Afagbedzi, organised a search party, which visited his farm and found the missing beans. When interrogated, the accused mentioned one Alex now at large, as the one who sent the cocoa beans to his farm for drying.

A further search of the farm and room led to the uncovering of a quantity of fresh and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Afagbedzi was then arrested and in a caution statement to the police admitted cultivating wee on his farm. The accused however denied any involvement in the theft of the cocoa beans. 13 Feb. 10
