Secure your future by voting for NPP - NAPO tells nursing students

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP's vice presidential candidate, has urged nursing students to back the NPP, stating that their votes are essential to secure important programs like Agenda 111, the national hospital project.

Speaking to students at the Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Accra, Dr. Prempeh urged them to avoid the return of former President John Dramani Mahama, claiming that the previous NDC government had mishandled matters pertaining to nursing students.

He stressed that the NPP's decision to reinstate trainee allowances shows their dedication to the welfare of nursing students, in contrast to the NDC's decision to eliminate them, which he said caused severe challenges for students during Mahama's leadership.

According to Dr. Prempeh, the next election will be a decision between the risks associated with Mahama's leadership and the stability provided by the NPP's programs.

“Like their colleagues at Korle Bu, they recognize the risk in returning to the leadership of a man who once cancelled their allowances and vowed not to restore them, even if it cost him the presidency.

“The 2024 elections, they believe, are about securing Ghana’s future. That is why they will place their trust in Dr. Bawumia, who will, after four years, return to account for his actions and decisions. In contrast, they fear a leader who will serve only four years and be free from accountability, could once again cut their allowances and impose harsher policies," a report by citinewsroom.com quoted him as saying.

He also criticized the NDC's management of nursing institution funding, saying that the NPP inherited a two-year backlog in feeding grant arrears under the Mahama administration.

He attributed these difficulties to the NDC's "incompetence" in managing essential services.

Robert Lamptey, Madina's NPP parliamentary candidate, and Jennifer Dede Adjabeng, the municipal chief executive, also spoke at the event and echoed Dr. Prempeh's calls for students to support the NPP in order to maintain policies that benefit the nursing community and Ghana's larger healthcare objectives.
