Security patrols in and around the University Of Cape Coast (UCC) campus have been intensified following the rape of a medical student of the school.
Speaking to Citi News, the PRO of UCC, Major Rtd Baah Bentum, noted that “campus security has teamed up with local police to restore order on the campus".
The move comes after a second-year medical student was sodomised at knife point by an intruder at the PSI hostel on Saturday.
The intruder was said to have sneaked into the victim's room between 5am and 6am and tapped her while she was sleeping.
Major Rtd Bentum, indicated that "keeping an eye on 20,000 people in a controlled area is a difficult task" adding that it was not humanly possible to give concrete assurance that the incident was not going to happen again.
According to him, the incident was regrettable and mentioned that security personnel had been deployed from to support the area under threat.
"This will ensure that order is brought on campus," he noted.
