Francis Ahovi, Security expert and Executive Secretary of Global Security for Africa Research and Good Governance (GLOSARGG) has suggested the use of advanced technology in limited voter registration exercises in the country and other exercises of the Electoral Commission (EC).

His idea came on the back of the missing but found Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits at the EC headquarters.

In a statement issued by GLOSARGG on Sunday, 12 May 2024, Francis Ahovi said the EC should invest in software to prevent electorates from battling with weather conditions in their quest to get registered.

He explained that, with the software, eligible voters can sit in the comfort of their homes and workplaces to get themselves registered through a short code.

He believes that such technology will cut down expensive funding of the current way of voter registration exercises in the country and also ensure transparency in the data.

The security expert also said he seconded the call from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and some citizens who are demanding that the EC provide the various serial numbers of the BVR kits which are currently been used in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

Francis Ahovi, however, claimed that the mandate of the EC has deteriorated over the years and they need to reshape their image to prevent unforeseen confusion in the country.
