Security guard in court for stealing electrical cables

Asamankese, June 6, GNA - Frank Ayisi, a 32-year-old security guard has appeared before the Asamankese Circuit Court charged with stealing 1,000 meters of cables valued at 1,300 Ghana cedis, the property of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in prison custody to re-appear on June 16. Police Chief Inspector Kate Ogyiri, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr. Kofi Akrowiah that Ayisi, an employee of Cobra Security Company, a private Security Organization with headquarters in Koforidua charged with the security of the ECG stockyard at Asamankese stole 1,000 meters of 16 millimetres of cables at the yard. She explained that, Ayisi had been working with the firm for eight months as security guard at the ECG stockyard. On Friday, April 04, this year at about 0600 hours, Ayisi was detailed to perform guard duty at the stockyard where a quantity of electrical cables and other materials were entrusted in his care till Monday, April 07.

On Monday at about 0600 hours another security guard went and relieved Ayisi and he decided to check to be sure that every item was intact only to discover that a bundle of cables measuring about 1,000 meters valued at about 1,300 Ghana cedis had been stolen from the stock yard.

He therefore contacted Ayisi who denied knowledge of the theft and a formal complaint was therefore lodged by the ECG and Ayisi was arrested.

He however, denied the offence in his cautioned statement.
