Security is a collective responsibility – Woyongo

Outgoing Minister of Interior, Mr Mark Woyongo, has underscored the need for all Ghanaians to help consolidate and improve the peaceful environment the country is enjoying.

The Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Navrongo Central Constituency, made the appeal during the homecoming of the citizens of Nayagnia Development Association (NDA), held in Navrongo on Saturday, stated that the country cannot compromise the recognition it had chalked at the global level for it peace and stability.

He urged Ghanaians to be vigilant and to report any suspected person to the security agencies, particularly those harbouring guns.

“Government will continue to resource and empower the security agencies to play their roles in maintaining and sustaining the peace the country is enjoying, but it behoves on every Ghanaian, particularly those close to the border towns, to support the security agencies by providing them with the needed information to enable them discharge their duties effectively. Everyone has a stake in ensuring security in our country”, the Interior Minister stressed.

On education, the MP indicated that the MPs’ Common Fund was not enough to provide support to the numerous brilliant-but-needy students in the constituency, and urged the association to establish an Educational Endowment Fund to provide support to the students.

The MP, who expressed concern about the splinter associations formed across the regional capitals of the country, drummed home the need for the formation of a common umbrella association like BONABOTO.

Responding to some of the concerns raised by the Nayagnia, the MP gave the assurance that he would help de-silt the dam and renovate the junior high school in the area, as well as help provide jobs for the youth under the Youth Employment programme.

He mentioned the provision and construction of water facilities, renovation and expansion of CHPS compounds, road networks and drainage systems among projects he had embarked upon in the constituency.

Professor Sylvester Achio, the Chairman of Nayagnia Development Association, in charge of the Accra-Tema branch, told the citizens at the dinner dance that the entire association needed to raise 40,000 Ghana cedis to complete the library project initiated by the association in Navrongo.

According to him, when completed, the library would not only serve the Nayagnia community, but other surrounding communities in the constituency, and entreated all to contribute towards the completion of the project.
