Winneba(CR), Oct. 03, GNA - A combined team of police and fire service personnel on Tuesday undertook an operation to re-locate 15 women frying yams and turkey tails very close to gas and fuel filling stations at Winneba Junction.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Jordan Quaye, Winneba District Police Commander who led the team said the women were re-located 100 metres away from the stations because of the danger their activities posed to life and property.

He told Ghana News Agency at Winneba that the operation formed part of their statutory function to protect lives and properties. ASP Quaye said children had been banned from selling at Winneba Junction and offenders would be arrested and prosecuted with their parents.

He said the operation would be organized periodically to ensure sanity at the filling stations.

The Winneba Police Command last Monday gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the women to re-locate 50 metres away to prevent fire outbreaks.
