Accra, July 22 GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday said security should be the concern of everyone, because without peace there would no democracy.
"Security should be the total concern of all, without peace there will not be democracy", he said this when the visiting former Prime Minister of Canada, Kim Campbell paid a courtesy call on him at the Castle, Osu. Former Premier Campbell, who is also the former Canadian Minister of Defence and Justice, is in Ghana to participate in the on-going three-week Ghana Security Sector Governance and Management Course for the various security agencies and civil organizations at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) at Teshie, near Accra. She is also the Deputy President of the Club of Madrid made up of former Heads of State, Prime Ministers and other prominent people in society.
President Kufuor said the establishment of the Club of Madrid was timely because with the transition of the world into a global village, the norm would be humanity.
He said the Club would set the preparatory stage and provide leadership for the world with their rich experience in governance and that developing countries, such as Ghana could learn from their maturity. Former Premier Campbell said the Club was formed to promote democratic rule in developing countries in transition such as Ghana.
She said the Club shared its experiences on the dynamics between the executive and legislature to developing countries.
