The burial and final funeral rites of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, known as Dote Yie, appears to be proceeding smoothly, as photos from the first day at the funeral grounds at Manhyia Palace, in the Ashanti Region, shows preparations well underway.

Photos available to GhanaWeb from its partner media house, otecfmghana.com, from the grounds, shows traditional figures, including priests and priestesses, clad in white regalia and smeared with powder as they perform some traditional ritual rites.

Additionally, symbolic traditional dance performances were held, each carrying significant meaning for the funeral.

Also captured were mourners clad in black and red attire, attending the week-long funeral to witness the proceedings.

Mounted police barricades were also visible, indicating that strong security will be in place to ensure order throughout the ceremony.

The funeral, which will be observed for a week, is expected to attract thousands of mourners and high-profile guests from Ghana and beyond to commiserate with the bereaved Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
