Ghanaians in the United Kingdom (UK) have shown their support for their fellow citizens back home by joining the growing #SayNoToGalamsey protest.

The demonstration, held outside the Ghana High Commission, sought to draw attention to the devastating impact of illegal mining, known as "galamsey," on the environment and water bodies in communities in Ghana.

The protest brought together different groups, including students, professionals, and community leaders, who united for a common goal.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions like “Blood, Gold, Greed!,” “Water No Bi Politics,” and “Stop Illegal Mining Now!”

The #FreeTheCitizens and #SayNoToGalamsey protest, a three-day event organized by the Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey, aimed to demand the release of some protesters who were arrested in a previous demonstration for breaching protest laws.

Another goal of the protest was to shed light on the dangerous effects of illegal mining on Ghana’s environment and water bodies and to demand immediate action to address the issue.
