Seeking for ideas from Ghanaians not anything new - Kokofu on NDC's 'people manifesto'

Former Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Henry Kwabena Kokofu says the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is being hypocritical by creating the impression that their attempt to seek ideas from Ghanaians is first of its kind in the political history of the country.

According to him, there is nothing wrong asking Ghanaians for their opinion as it is the basis for knowing the challenges facing the people, but then the opposition NDC is making it look as though the exercise is an innovative way which is unprecedented.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Henry Kokofu commended the Special Aide to former President Mahama, Lawyer Edidzi Tamakloe for acknowledging that the late President Atta Mills did the same thing, consulting Ghanaians to discuss their challenges in the country.

“Indeed, the NDC in 2012 and 2016 elections said they have spoken with Ghanaians and are delivering what Ghanaians want. Even in 2008, the late President Atta Mills during his campaign said they have gone to all Ghanaians and that they preferred to have a one-time premium for the NHIS than the one they pay every year,” he argued.

He insisted that it is not the first time the NDC has embarked on such an exercise to solicit ideas from Ghanaians, but the danger has always been that the NDC never worked with any of the ideas from the public.

“When the NDC said one time premium for the NHIS, they never mentioned it again when they came into power," he referred.

He recalled that former President John Mahama followed the late President Mills to assure the Chiefs and people of the Western Region that the NDC government will give them 10 percent of the oil revenue, but former President failed to honour that promise when his predecessor died.
