Residents of Sefwi Asawinso and its environs in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality are gripped with fear following a series of grave looting incidents.

Elders and traditional leaders of the community have issued a warning against trespassing in local cemeteries after reports surfaced of graves being desecrated for body parts, allegedly for ritual purposes.

According to a report by UTV, several graves have been destroyed, with skeletons and other body parts taken.

Traditional leaders, led by Okyeame Gyasi, have performed rituals, pouring libations to pacify the gods and cautioning the perpetrators to cease their activities or face consequences.

"They destroyed all the iron rods and took skeletons and other body parts from various graves in the cemetery. We don't know if they are going to sell them or for whatever reason," Queen mother Nana Ama Akyine lamented in an interview with UTV.

"This is not an issue with the government; it is our personal affair. We are issuing a caution that if you come to the cemetery for any reason other than burying a deceased person and you are caught, we will deal with you. Our chief couldn't come, but he has sent us to give this warning," she added.

Abusuapanin Kofi Nkrumah emphasized, "We, the traditional leaders, are in black and at this cemetery. Henceforth, we will be policing the cemetery. If you are caught here at night, the laws will deal with you."
