Sekondi Wesley Society to rehabilitate Methodist schools

The Sekondi Wesley Society of the Methodist Church is to rehabilitate five of its first cycle schools at a cost of six million cedis.

The Reverend Charles Aaron Ekuban, superintendent minister of the society, announced this when presenting cheques to the schools for the projects in Sekondi.

The schools are: Ekuasi Primary and Junior Secondary ( JSS ), which received two million cedis; Boundary Road Methodist Primary, Ketan Methodist Primary, Sekondi Well Road Methodist Primary and Ketan Methodist JSS, all of which received one million cedis each.

The cheques were received on behalf of the schools by Miss Susana Eshun, Western Regional Manager of the Methodist Education Unit.

Reverend Ekuban said the church has decided to rehabilitate its schools to enhance teaching and learning before it starts a proposed nursery and JSS complex in Sekondi.

He urged Methodist schools not to begin new educational projects without first seeking clearance from the Church, which believes that old school buildings should be renovated first.

Reverend Ekuban said he found out during a tour that some of the buildings are in a state of disrepair and have become death traps due to lack of maintenance.

He asked Ghanaians to cultivate the culture of maintenance to preserve buildings and solve accommodation problems.

Reverend Ekuban spoke against the use of government bungalows for poultry and the rearing of livestock and advised those engaged in the practice to put an immediate stop to it, because it destroys the buildings and poses a health hazard.
