Accra, Oct. 28, GNA - Mr. George Aggudey, the Presidential Candidate of the Convention People's Party (CPP) noted on Thursday, that self-development was the key to the country's economic independence. "Ghana would remain weak and childish if the government fails to break the bondage of our over-dependence on others for support," Mr Aggudey warned at the national launch of the CPP Manifesto: "CPP Policy Direction - Working to Bring the Economy Back Home," in Accra.

The Presidential Candidate told the enthusiastic supporters that: "CPP Administration would definitely avoid this dangerous and ugly phenomenon".

The 24-page document addresses Ghana's International Relations; Economic Planning and Finance; the Interior; Local Government; National Infrastructure; Housing; Electricity, Energy and Power; Agriculture and Rural Development and Defence and Education.

The rest were Health; Industry; Trade and Employment; Youth, Sports and Culture; Science and Technology; Environment and Natural Resources; Communication and Information; Women and Children's Affairs; Justice; Transport and Tourism.

Mr. Aggudey also introduced his running mate Mr. Bright Kwame Ameyaw to the Media and Party members.

He said food security would remain an integral part of the government of the CPP to guarantee food stock at reasonable prices throughout the country and ensure price stabilization for the broad masses of the people.

He said storage facilities for grains and perishables, which were abandoned after the 1966 coup would be reactivated, while new ones would be constructed at strategic places for farmers to overcome the perennial problems of marketing.

Mr Aggudey said a CPP Administration would also initiate policies to encourage the production of a greater percentage of domestic poultry to reduce the importation of the product. He said if successive governments had continued the seven-year development Plan (1963- 1970) of the CPP under the late president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana would have enjoyed massive employment facilities by now.

The over 55 minutes speech of the CPP Presidential Candidate to the cheering supporters dwelt mainly on the party's manifesto and the achievements of the once vibrant Party.
