Self-styled film director remanded for fraud

Juaso (Ash), March 20, GNA - A circuit court at Juaso in the Ashanti Region, remanded a self-styled film director for defrauding five persons of a total of 415 Ghana Cedis. Akwasi Amankwaah, 27, who pleaded not guilty to two counts of possessing forged documents and defrauding under false pretence, would reappear before the court on April 1 2009. Police Superintendent Francis Agrippa Oppong, told the court presided over by Mr. S K Sarpong Appiah, that Mary Ahiakpa, Sandra Ampomaa, Martha Afenyi, Kwaku Atta and Francisca Afriyie, all from Atwedie near Juaso were complainants in the case. Prosecution said the accused person allegedly told the victims that he worked with Agya Koo, a popular movie star, and collected various sums of monies from them to register them to enable the victims to feature in films. Supt. Oppong said Amankwaah took a group picture with the complainants to convince them that the deal was genuine But he failed to fulfil his promise.
