Bawku (U/E), Feb.02, GNA - The Bawku Magistrates Court has remanded a 26-year-old plastic wares seller in prison custody for inflicting blade wounds on a customer over a row for defaulting in paying for the goods she bought on credit.

Mariama Moro, who pleaded not guilty, is to re-appear before court next week.

Prosecuting, Inspector Andrews A. Yirenkyi, told the court, presided over by Mr. Paul Alhassan, that, in the early part of January, the complainant, Zenabu Abubakari, bought a plastic basket from the accused, Mariama, on credit terms for A225,000.

He said Zenabu was supposed to make a daily payment of A22,000, but defaulted for over three weeks after paying A212,000. Insp. Yirenkyi said when Mariama finally met Zenabu, she (Zenabu) told Mariama that she could no longer pay the A225,000 since the basket was being sold on the market for A215,000.

He said Mariama agreed and promised to refund the A212,000, but Zenabu threw the basket over to her in an annoying mood and this resulted in an exchange of words before they were separated. The next day, Zenabu met Mariama and without any provocation, insulted and beat her up before they were separated by onlookers. Not satisfied, Zenabu went to Mariama's house and beat her up again mercilessly where Mariama laid hands on a blade and inflicted cuts on Zenabu's face and breasts.

Zenabu later reported the incident to the police and Mariama was arrested.
