Senya Beraku Health Post be to upgraded

Senya Beraku (C/R), Aug. 10 GNA - The Senya Beraku Health Post in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District is to be upgraded to provide quality health care delivery to the people.

President John Agyekum Kufuor, who announced this on Wednesday, directed the Ministry of Health to undertake the necessary steps towards the upgrading.

"Work on the Health Post began during the Second Republic and would be upgraded", he said.

He was addressing of the Chiefs and people of the Senya Beraku Traditional Area, on the first day of his five-day tour of the Central Region.

President Kufuor said the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development had been directed to establish a Waste Management Project at Kasoa to improve upon sanitation in the area.

He announced that the District would benefit from the 290 million dollars Millennium Challenge Account (MCA).

President Kufuor said about 8,000 hectares had been acquired for the establishment of mango and pineapple plantations on large scale in the area to create more jobs for the people.

He announced plans to improve tourism in the area. The President is being accompanied by the Central Regional Minister, Mr Isaac Edumadze; Mr Kwamena Bartels, Minister of Private Sector Development and President's Special Initiative; Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Minister of Public Sector Reform and Mr Charles Bintin, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.

Also with the President are Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliaments and District Chief Executives from the Central Region and New Patriotic Party (NPP) activists.

In a welcoming address read for the Apofohen of the Area, Neenyi Kwamina Mortey by Mr Kwesi Esserku, Presiding Member of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly, the Chiefs commended President Kufuor for the rehabilitation of the Winneba Junction-Kasoa-Mallam road and the establishment of the Ayensu Starch Factory and other development projects in the area.

He asked that plans for the connection of the Winneba Water supply to the Senya Area be expedited to solve water problem facing the people in the area.

Neenyi Mortey said that one assembly member representing Kasoa, with a population of more than 40,000 at the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly was not the best and suggested that all the fifteen areas be represented at the assembly to enhance development. He called for the extension of electricity to some fifty communities in the Awutu-Senya areas and the rehabilitation of the Awutu Beraku - Bontrase and Jei-Krodua to Kasoa roads.

Neenyi Mortey appealed to the Ministry of Education of upgrade the Senya Senior Secondary School with modern facilities, improve staff situation and provide more staff bungalows to ease the accommodation problem facing the school. 10 Aug. 05
