Seven dead after mining pit collapses at Manso Kaneago

Seven illegal miners have died after a mining pit collapsed at Manso Kaneago in the Amansie South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The victims were among eight miners trapped underground when the pit caved in at about 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

Reports indicate that about 12 miners were working at the site in search of gold deposits when the incident occurred. While four miners managed to escape, the remaining eight were trapped beneath the collapsed pit.

Seven bodies have since been retrieved and deposited at a morgue. Meanwhile, personnel from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) are involved in a rescue operation to recover the trapped miners.
