Mamponteng (Ash), July 28, GNA - The Mamponteng magistrate court on Wednesday remanded a 30-year-old driver in police custody for careless driving and negligently causing harm. Osumanu Adams was alleged to have carelessly driven into a mini bus on which were seven European tourists, injuring them in the process. His plea was not taken and will re-appear on August 10.

Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Francis Mensah, said the tourists who sustained injuries were receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

ASP. Mensah said Adams was alleged to have had a fight with a neighbour at a drinking bar at Ntonso and stabbed him and drove off in anger to Kumasi. He said on reaching a junction at Tafo, the accused carelessly veered off his lane and negligently hit the mini bus on which the tourists were travelling, injuring them in the process.

The District Police Commander said, but for the fact that some of the tourists dropped to buy some artefacts, a serious tragedy would have been recorded as the impact of the crash virtually overturned the mini bus. ASP Mensah said after the accident, Adams attempted to run away but the police, who had been alerted, gave him a hot chase and arrested him. He said the accused would again be put before court on another charge of assaulting one Kwasi Adjei with a knife following a misunderstanding last Tuesday at Ntonso.
