Kade, Nov. 7, GNA - Seventeen facilitators who handled adult literacy classes in the Kwaebibirem District, have been rewarded for their voluntary work.

They were each presented with a packet of roofing sheets each. Ten of the facilitators handled 228 learners made up of 77 males and 151 females in seven communities in the district. Through their efforts, 70 percent of the adult learners have acquired reading, writing and numeracy skills to help them in their daily lives. Seven other facilitators handled English classes for neo-literates, graduates from basic classes, which were participated by 161 people, 89 males and 72 females.

About 70 percent of that number can now read, write, compute and communicate in English.

The facilitators had the option of choosing sewing machine, bicycle, and a packet of roofing sheets, cooking utensils and ghetto blaster. All the 17, however, opted for roofing sheets, which were presented to them last Friday.

The District Coordinator of the Non-Formal Education Division, Madam Patricia Ansah, congratulated the facilitators for their voluntary spirit and for showing a high sense of dedication. She said the Division, District Assembly and all stakeholders were most grateful to them.
