Sunyani, (Brong Ahafo) 3 Nov. '98 Former employees of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Development Corporation (BARDEC) listed for divestiture, have petitioned President J.J. Rawlings to assist them to receive payment of their full severance awards. The workers numbering 36, in a petition, stated that only 26.3 million cedis out of a total of over 180.5 million cedis due them has been paid since their appointments were terminated on October 31, 1995. They said before the termination of their appointments, the managing director of the corporation, Mr Kofi Konadu, was made to calculate their severance awards which amounted to over 180.5 million cedis to the executive secretary of the Divestiture Implementation Committee. They claimed that information reaching them ''indicates that a total of 3,779,889.60 cedis which was due the then administrative secretary, Mr Kwabena Kyere, has been paid to him giving credence to the fact that the figures submitted by the managing director were correct. A copy of the summary of severance awards to the employees attached to the petition shows that only 1.2 million cedis out of over 14.7 million cedis due one of them, Mr P.K. Twum, who worked for 22 years, has been paid. The ex-employees therefore appealed to the President to use his good offices to put pressure on the authorities to effect payment of the remaining 150.7 million cedis.
